“I see the others far away
As if in firelit camp they lay,
And I, like to an Indian scout,
Around their party prowled about.
So, when my nurse comes in for me,
Home I return across the sea,
And go to bed with backward looks
At my dear land of Story-books”
Robert Louis Stevenson
I have been telling this story for years and decided to put it in writing to share with all the children of the world. My heart, my choice, my love. This story has a Middle Eastern background. This is where I created and shared this story with many Iraqi children. It was so wonderful to see their little eyes light up as the princess and Rebekah conquered the hatred of the kingdom. This story explains diversity. I have always used it as a tool to explain how wrong it is to hate people because of the color of their skin, their religion, or who they are. Being mean to another because they are hungry or hurt. I made it a point to always tell children that bullying was so wrong and that there is no reason for it other than cruelty. The evil prince of this story represents those responsible for spreading hate and discontent throughout the world. With the help of an evil genie he feels that he is entitled to have the kingdom for his own to rule. Why does an entitled individual believe they are better than another when in fact they never are; they are just used to having everything given to them. Is it wrong to help another person who is injured, hungry? Many questions can be asked that will help a child in this already confusing world. The only way to help children understand is to teach them now! Don’t let them learn from others who are contaminated by narrow minded thinking or the perpetuators of ugliness. This book is wonderful sit down and read time with children. Much love to everyone and I hope that you enjoy.
